Our complex
shoulder is made of four major joints, one of them is AC joint, or
acromioclavicular joint.
What is AC Joint?
A joint is
where the two bone meet, in case of AC joint is where our collarbone (clavicle)
, and shoulder blade (scapula)meet. The cartilage cushioning between these two
bones makes the smooth movement of joints.
Functions of AC Joint
·
To
provide range of motion to our scapula
·
Allow
our scapula to adjust while movement
Conditions that affect our AC joints
AC joint is
part of our most complex bone in our body which is shoulder, frequent movements
and chronic conditions makes it more prone to injuries, according to shoulder arthroscopy surgeon in Delhi chronic shoulder joint injuries can have longer
impact on our daily routine activities.
Some common conditions of AC joints are listed
below:
·
Arthritis: osteoarthritis is common kind of
arthritis which affects this joint, which causes wearing out of cartilage. This
condition can cause severe pain due to rubbing of joints without cartilage,
non-invasive treatment include less movement of shoulder joints, and ice
pack.
·
Inflammation: inflammation is our body’s natural
response while fighting with injuries, infection, and diseases. When there is injury
or excruciating pain in our upper part of shoulder joints than it can result in
AC joint inflammation.
·
Overuse: pain & inflammation in shoulder
joints can be result of overuse of this joint over the longer period; it can
also include heavy lifting, or frequent movements with heavy weights.
·
AC Joint Separation: stretched ligament, or torn ligament is defined as AC joint separation, when entire ligament torn out it can
also result in joints deformity.
AC joint
injuries can be from mild to severe; when non-medical methods failed to provide
any relief one may opt for shoulder arthroscopy surgery
